• reduced total type-1 interferon (IFN) activity in the supernatant of mutant MEFs infected with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) or vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) compared to controls
• decrease in serum type-1 IFN levels after viral infection (with HSV-1 or EMCV)
• more vulnerable to HSV-1 infection than wild-type or homozygous Irf3 or Myd88 mutant mice
