endocrine/exocrine glands
• the number of beta cells decreases with age in homozygous mice probably as a result of increased beta cell susceptibility to apoptosis
• this effect is more prominent on a [(129/Sv x C57BL/6) x C57BL/6]F2 background than on a C57BL/6 background
• insulin content in islets is decreased by 16% compared to wild-type islets
• glucose stimulated insulin secretion normalized to insulin content is decreased 23% compared to wild-type mice
• glucagon positive cells and pancreatic glucagon content are increased in homozygous mice at 36 weeks of age

homeostasis/metabolism
• glucagon positive cells and pancreatic glucagon content are increased in homozygous mice at 36 weeks of age
• plasma insulin concentrations are reduced by 50% in homozygous mice at 36 weeks of age but no difference in plasma insulin concentrations are seen at 24 weeks of age
• blood glucose levels are significantly higher 15 and 30 minutes into an oral glucose tolerance test
• at 17 weeks of age increase in plasma insulin concentrations in response to glucose load are decreased

behavior/neurological
• mice exhibit enhanced freezing during conditioning and before the cue at the cue test in fear conditioning testing at 31 weeks of age
• mice exhibit longer escape latency and lower numbers of avoidance at the first block on day 3 in the active avoidance test, indicating diminished avoidance reaction
• mice exhibit a longer latency to enter the other chamber in the passive avoidance test at 12 weeks of age
• mice show increased escape latency without the change of distance traveled in the Morris water maze at 31 weeks of age
• however, no abnormalities are seen in the rotarod test, hot plate test, tail flick test, marble burying test, tail suspension test, startle response, prepulse inhibition, in the open field, light-dark box, home cage activity, wheel-running and elevated plus maze
• mice exhibit reduced immobility on the second day of the force swimming test at 9 and 12 weeks of age
• mice exhibit decreased social interaction at 9 weeks of age

digestive/alimentary system
• mice have a lower number of fecal boluses during the elevated plus maze than wild-type mice
