Mutation details: The targeting vector used to generate the initial Hdc-cre allele was modified such that an IRES2i-EGFP-IRES2i-cre-FRT-neo-FRT sequence was inserted into exon 12 of Hdc after the stop codon. The resulting allele is tricistronic producing an mRNA coding for Hdc, EGFP and cre. Breeding to Flp deleter mice removed the neo marker. However, cre is not translated sufficiently from this mRNA configuration to result in recombination of floxed gene sequences.
