Mutation details: 0.82 kb of human BCL2L1 cDNA preceded by 12.9 kb of rat insulin promoter and enhancer sequences was used for the transgene. Specific expression of the transgene in beta-cells of the pancreas was confirmed by immunohistochemical analysis. Protein staining was detected in beta-cells of transgenic animals, but not in non-beta-cells, liver, exocrine tissue, small intestine, or lymph nodes. Western blot analysis showed expression of the human protein is at least 10-fold greater that of endogenous protein.
