Mutation details: 0.82 kb of human BCL2L1 cDNA preceded by 0.5 kb of rat insulin 1 promoter sequences was used for the transgene. Specific expression of the transgene in beta-cells of the pancreas was confirmed by immunohistochemical analysis. Protein staining was detected in beta-cells of transgenic animals, but not in non-beta-cells, liver, exocrine tissue, small intestine, or lymph nodes. Western blot analysis showed expression of the human protein was 2- to 3-fold that of endogenous protein.
