Mutation details: Exons 4 and 5 were replaced with a neomycin selection cassette. Northern blot analysis of total hepatic RNA from heterozygous mice showed transcript levels to be reduced to 40% of normal. Squalene synthase activity was determined to be reduced by 50% in heterozygous mice via an assay of liver and testis homogenates.
