Mutation details: The transgene contains the following elements: a neuron-specific enhancers-containing region 6.5-13 kb upstream of the Pomc gene transcription start site with enhancer Rr280 deleted but a modified Rr279 (where the sequence flanking the 144 bp core was deleted from the 630 bp region) still present, and the Pomc gene, including 0.8 kb of upstream and 8 kb of downstream sequence, with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The transgene is expressed in hypothalamic arcuate neurons and in the pitutiary gland during embryonic development.
