Mutation details: The transgene contains the following: the Pomc gene, including sequence 8 kb downstream of the transcription start site and 13 kb upstream (minus the -6.5 to -0.8 kb region), containing neuron- (Rr279 (nPE1), Rr280 (nPE2)) and pituitary-specific (Rr281) enhancers and the promoter, with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The transgene is expressed in pituitary melanotrophs and corticotrophs and in hypothalamic arcuate neurons during embryonic development.
