Mutation details: The transgene consists of a human COL2A1 minigene deleted for introns 15-27. The minigene lacks 291 out of 1523 codons and produces an in-frame transcript. Western blot analysis of chondrocyte extracts from transgenic animals confirmed expression of a shortened human protein. (J:31511)

Notes
Five transgenic founders (5, 7, 42, 44, and 47) were created. Founder 5 appeared normal and is suspected to be mosaic. Founders 7, 42, 44, and 47 displayed slightly shortened limbs. All progeny from these 4 founders exhibit a severe phenotype (short limbs, short tail, short snout, and cranial bulge) and die shortly after birth. Most F1 pups also had wide cleft palate.
