Reference: J:75058 Davies D, et al., Differential expression of alpha3 and alpha6 integrins in the developing mouse inner ear. J Comp Neurol. 2002 Apr 1;445(2):122-32
Assay type: Immunohistochemistry
MGI Accession ID: MGI:3575632
Gene symbol: Itga6
Gene name: integrin alpha 6
Antibody: anti-alpha6 integrin (GoH3)
Detection system: Secondary antibody coupled to fluorescein
Results
Specimen 1A,B: embryonic day 10.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS17: otocyst epithelium Present Non-Uniform 1B , 1A Expression is throughout the epithelium, but is intense in the anteriolateral region of the mid-otocyst. This coincides with the area of neuroblast delamination. Expression appears to be in neuroblast precursors that have not yet delaminated.
TS17: acoustic ganglion Present Single cells 1A , 1B The expression does not seem to be in the same cells that express Neurod1 (see assay MGI:3575640).
TS17: facial ganglion Present Single cells 1A , 1B The expression does not seem to be in the same cells that express Neurod1 (see assay MGI:3575640).

Specimen 2B: embryonic day 12.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS20: inner ear vestibular component Present Regionally restricted 2B Expression is in the prosensory regions of the ampulla. There seems to be a reciprocal staining of Itga6 and Itga3 (see assay MGI:3575638).

Specimen 2D: embryonic day 12.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS20: cochlear duct epithelium Present Regionally restricted 2D Expression is in the prosensory regions.
TS20: vestibulo-cochlear ganglion complex Present Regionally restricted 2D Expression is at the periphery and in the fibers, but is not detected in the cell bodies.

Specimen 3A: embryonic day 12.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS20: inner ear vestibular component Present Regionally restricted 3A Staining in the ampulla is in the same area as nerve fibers that penetrate the epithelium.

Specimen 4B: embryonic day 14.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS22: inner ear vestibular component Present Regionally restricted 4B Expression is in the sensory areas of the ampulla and the fibers supplying them. Staining is in clearly delineated patches corresponding to cuticular plates and immature hair bundles.
TS22: inner ear Present Regionally restricted 4B Expression is throughout the epithelial-mesenchymal border.

Specimen 4E: embryonic day 14.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS22: cochlear duct epithelium Present Regionally restricted 4E Expression is in the sensory areas and the fibers supplying them.
TS22: inner ear Present Regionally restricted 4E Expression is throughout the epithelial-mesenchymal border.

Specimen 5B: embryonic day 18.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS26: inner ear vestibular component Present Non-Uniform 5B Expression is in the sensory epithelium of the ampulla. Expression is in the greater epithelial ridge, the spiral limbus and beneath the support cells.

Specimen 5E: embryonic day 18.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS26: cochlear duct epithelium Present Regionally restricted 5E Expression is in the sensory epithelium.
TS26: cochlear duct Present Regionally restricted 5E Expression is at the epithelial-mesenchymal border.

Specimen 6A: embryonic day 18.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS26: cochlea Present Regionally restricted 6A Expression is in spiral ganglion fibers beneath all sensory areas. Expression is also within the cell bodies of the spiral ganglion. Staining in the epithelium itself does not seem to be associated with nerve fibers.

Specimen 7B: postnatal day 0 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS27: inner ear vestibular component Strong Regionally restricted 7B Expression is in the support cell and hair cell layers within the sensory epithelia of the crista and utricular macula, but is absent in the nonsensory epithelium connecting them.
TS27: utricle Strong Regionally restricted 7B Expression is in the support cell and hair cell layers within the sensory epithelia of the crista and utricular macula, but is absent in the nonsensory epithelium connecting them.

Specimen 7E: postnatal day 0 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS27: cochlear duct Present Regionally restricted 7E Expression is in the sensory epithelia and the fibers from the spiral ganglion.

Specimen 8D: postnatal day 6 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS28: saccule Present Regionally restricted 8D Expression is in the fibers beneath the sensory epithelium, but is not in the epithelium itself.

Specimen 8E: postnatal day 6 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS28: organ of Corti Weak Regionally restricted 8E Expression is in the sensory epithelium of the basal turn.

Specimen 8F: postnatal day 6 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS28: organ of Corti Moderate Regionally restricted 8F Expression is in the sensory epithelium of the apex.
