Mutation details: The transgene expresses the cDNA encoding firefly luciferase under control of the heat shock protein 1B (Hsp1b) promoter. This promoter contains four tandem heat shock elements, each recognized by a specific heat shock factor; an inverted CCAAT box; a TATA box; two Sp1 binding sites; and an AP2 binding site. The transgene's expression mirrors that of the endogenous Hsp1b gene during preimplantation embryonic development: both are expressed constitutively at high levels at the 2-cell stage and are inducible from the blastocyst stage forward.
