Mutation details: The Creb1 gene carrying a serine to alanine substitution at the protein kinase A phosphoacceptor site, amino acid 133, was used as the transgene. 320 bp of rat growth hormone promoter sequences fused to Creb1 targets expression of the transgene to somatotrophic cells of the anterior pituitary gland.

Mutant animals exhibit a dwarf phenotype as early as 3 weeks. Male and female transgenics show a 31% and 24% reduction in body weight, respectively, and depletion of somatotrophic cells in atrophied anterior lobes of the pituitary gland is observed.
