Reference: J:63681 Martinez-Barbera JP, et al., The homeobox gene Hesx1 is required in the anterior neural ectoderm for normal forebrain formation. Dev Biol. 2000 Jul 15;223(2):422-30
Assay type: RNA in situ
MGI Accession ID: MGI:1931459
Gene symbol: Otx1
Gene name: orthodenticle homeobox 1
Probe: Otx1 probe
Probe preparation: Antisense labelled with digoxigenin RNA
Visualized with: Alkaline phosphatase
Results
Specimen 6 I: embryonic day 8.0 (more )
Note: 7 somites.
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS12: future midbrain Present 6I
TS12: future prosencephalon Present Regionally restricted 6I Expression is in an inverted U-shaped domain in the prosencephalon. This domain abuts the rostromedial aspects of the forebrain, including the incipient optic cups.
TS12: future brain Present Regionally restricted 6I Expression domain in the lateral aspects of the anterior neural plate. Expression was absent in the medial region of the anterior neural plate.

Specimen 6 J: embryonic day 8.0; Hesx1tm1Icar/Hesx1tm1Icar (more )
Note: 7 somites.
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS12: future midbrain Present 6J
TS12: future prosencephalon Present Regionally restricted 6J Expression is absent in a region in the rostral forebrain but expression is normal in other forebrain territories.
TS12: future brain Present Regionally restricted 6J Expression domain in the lateral aspects of the anterior neural plate. The medial region of the anterior neural plate (which normally does not express Otx1) is absent in the embryo, and now expression was seen across the midline.
