Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: The fate of Ds homozygotes: In order to study the fate of the Ds/Ds homozygotes we have intercrossed Ds +/+ hr animals. Out of 84 progeny analysed 18 had the hr phenotype (hr/hr). This is significantly different from the 1/3 proportion expected if it was true that Ds and hr are linked and Ds/Ds lethal. To try to further understand this, 41 progeny were tested amongst which 27 were .../+ hr and 14 were non .../+ hr. All the 20 males amongst these 41 progeny were also tested and all were shown to be carrying the Ds mutation. These results seem to show that Ds is probably linked to hr but that at least certain homozygotes are able to reach adulthood in our experimental conditions.
