Abstract:

Full text of MNL contribution. 1. New mutants and linkages. a. Acromelanic (ca). A new allele at the albino locus (nml260) arose in the C3H/HeJ strain in 1985. Homozygotes are distinguishable from albino at birth by pigmented eyes. Both young and adult ca/ca animals have an off white coat color, pigmented eyes, ears, tail and anal region. Unlike ch/ch animals no dark hairs appear on the nose. Crosses made to determine the effect of ca on coat color in combination with other alleles at the albino locus place ca between cch and ce in the albino series. Acromelanic, ca is fully recessive to wild type and completely dominant to albino. When heterozygous with chinchilla the coat color is lighter than ch/ch but darker than ca/ca with a very dark pigmented anal region. When heterozygous with ce the coat color is lighter than homozygous ce and indistinguishable from homozygous ca. However, the ears and tails are darker than ce/ce. In combination with ch the coat is lighter and again indistinguishable from ca/ca. However eyes are pigmented in addition to the dark ears and tail. Heterozygotes with c have a slightly off white coat color, dark eyes and slightly sooty ears and tail. (Sweet)
