Abstract:

Full text of MNL contribution: 5. Allelism of Mobr and Blo. Heterozygous Mobr +/+ Blo females (obtained by crossing Mobr + females x Blo males) were of uniform light coat colour. When crossed with normal males they gave 240 young, 238 of which had curly whiskers at birth. The two straight-whiskered ones proved to be Blo+. The viability of the young (and of the Mobr +/+ Blo females themselves) was reduced, and only 178 young survived to be classified for Mobr and Blo. All were one or the other, with a deficiency of animals classified as Blo, probably due to misclassification of Blo animals as Mobr, since all the young were very strongly affected. This evidence suggests strongly that the genes Mobr and Blo are allelic, and the symbol for blotchy should therefore be changed to Moblo. (Lyon)
