Abstract:

Full text of MNL contribution: M. M. Dickie. New Mutants: 5. A variegated yellow and black female was observed in strain C57BL/6J in 1967. This female was a mosaic carrying another new yellow allele at the agouti 1ocus, called sienna yellow with the symbol Asy. She produced 20 offspring, four of which were a very dark or sooty yellow. The hair of these heterozygotes has a yellow base and black tip. Matings of heterozygotes have produced 3 phenotypes, one a reasonably clear yellow, one a sooty yellow like the parents, and one non-yellow or black. Breeding results show that the clear yellows are homozygotes, Asy/Asy. The compound with lethal yellow, Ay/Asy, is viable and fertile.
