Abstract:
Full text of MNL contribution: M.M. Dickie. New mutations: 1. Slight dilution. One slightly dilute animal was recovered from a litter of B6D2F1 (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J) mice born in March 1964. Breeding tests with this deviant indicated it was a recessive mutation. When these dusky animals were crossed with strain DBA/2J all the Fl mice were intermediate between dilute and intense in color. In the F2 of this cross it was possible to distinguish between homozygous slight dilution, heterozygous slight dilution and dilute, and homozygous dilute. No intense animals were recovered in these segregating litters. There is no abnormal behavior and no lethality of homozygous slight dilution animals. This mutation, a new allele at the d locus, is called slight dilution and the suggested symbol is ds.
