Full text of MNL contribution: Research news: The lethal mutation previously referred to as fetal muscular degeneration has been re-designated muscular dysgenesis (symbol mdg). Histochemical techniques showed absence of staining of acetylcholinesterase at myoneural junctions in skeletal muscles of 15-19 day mdg/mdg fetuses, in contrast to muscles of normal fetuses of the same ages in which motor end plates are easily detectable by the activity of the enzyme. This developmental anomaly is further evidence of an inability of embryonic skeletal muscle cells of mdg mutant animals to differentiate.
