Spontaneous Allele Detail

Nomenclature
Symbol: Aiy
Name: nonagouti; intermediate yellow
MGI ID: MGI:1855933
Gene: a   Location: Chr2:154617138-154876748 bp, + strand    Genetic Position: Chr2, 89.0 cM
Mutation
origin
Strain of Origin: C3H/HeJ
Mutation
description
Allele Type: Spontaneous
Mutation: Transposon insertion
This allele is the result of a 1 kb intracisternal A particle (IAP) transposon insertion. Genomic Southern hybridization analysis places the insertion just upstream of exon 2. (J:19977)
Inheritance: Dominant

Notes The Avy allele arose spontaneously in the C3H/HeJ strain. Heterozygotes (Aiy/a) are sootier than Ay/a and are often indistinguishable from A/a. They do not have the mottling often observed in Avy/a. Homozygotes are viable, as are Avy/Ay and Aiy/Avy (J:13441).
