- For MGI release 4.13, the MGI Batch Query tool now accepts mixed lists of identifiers as input.
- Results appear for combinations of IDs or mouse synonyms/symbols/orthologs with MGI gene associations.
- Query results are available in two formats: web page or tab-delimited text file.

September 18, 2008: New Phenotype summary on allele detail pages for MGI release 4.12
- The Phenotype section of each Allele Detail Page now includes two distinct views of phenotype data.
- A new section, Phenotype Summary, presents data in a matrix format that allows easy comparison of phenotypes across genotypes. Users can compare effects of different allelic combinations (homozygotes, heterozygotes, conditionals, complex allelic combinations, etc.), different genetic backgrounds with the same allelic combinations, and quickly view the range of phenotypic effects observed for a given allele.
- This phenotype matrix view is presented first with an axis of high level terms like "hematopoietic system" and gives the user the option to expand that section into more specific annotated phenotypic terms (anemia, increased mast cell number, etc.).
- In addition, the ability to pop up individual windows that contain the phenotype and disease model for a single genotype is available from the Phenotype Summary. This can facilitate comparisons across mutants for a single gene, as well as among mutants for different genes.
- The Phenotypic Data by Genotype section presents a table of genotypes that can be expanded to show complete phenotype annotation, preserving the data format previously provided. For each genotype listed, users can expand the display to show the full phenotype detail for a given genotype (or for all genotypes), as well as the disease model annotations.
- To see an example of a the redesigned allele detail page, check this record for one of the targeted mutations of the endoglin gene, Engtm1Mle.
For additional information, see the Allele Tour displaying the basics of the new phenotype formats.

July 24, 2008: Enhancements to the Gene Expression Database (GXD) for MGI 4.11

- In addition to links to detailed expression data entries, data summaries returned by the Gene Expression Data and Expanded query forms now also include links to expression literature content records matching the query parameters. Read more...
- Some of the expression images annotated by GXD are 3-D spatially mapped into EMAGE, the Edinburgh Mouse Atlas and Gene Expression Database. GXD's image detail pages now include links to corresponding entries at EMAGE. This makes it easier to compare GXD's text-based and EMAGE's graphical annotation of the same expression data.
- Now available on gene detail pages (under External Resources in the Expression section) are links to gene expression profile pages at GEO, the microarray repository at NCBI; and links to summary pages of images generated by GENSAT, the Gene Expression Nervous System Atlas Project.

May 22, 2008: MGI 4.02
- A new MGI Web Service provides programmatic access to select portions of the database. You can submit a set of identifiers (for example, mouse symbols) and get back a list of corresponding MGI gene/marker IDs, or you can load a set of identifiers and specify the attributes you want returned.
- The layout of the Expression section of gene detail pages has been improved and links to gene pages at the Allan Brain Atlas, a database of gene expression patterns in the adult mouse brain, have been added.
- Gene Expression Data summaries have been revised to make accessing the detailed expression data more intuitive. The links to the detailed data are now in the first column of the page and have been re-labeled data. Additionally, a camera icon has been added to indicate when images of the primary data are available by following the data link.

February 21, 2008: Website and Navigation Redesign for MGI 4.0
- The MGI website has a new design! Take a quick tour of the major changes:
- Click the horizontal navigation bar to see drop-down menu options.
- Click Search-->All Search Tools for a complete list of all available search forms.
- New MGI content pages replace menu pages. Click:
- Genes for Genes, Genome Features & Maps
- Phenotypes for Phenotypes, Alleles & Disease Models
- Expression for the Gene Expression Database (GXD)
- Function for Functional Annotation using the Gene Ontology (GO)
- Strains for Strains, SNPs & Polymorphisms
- Orthology for Mammalian Orthology
- Tumor for Mouse Tumor Biology (MTB).
- The MGI homepage and all content pages include Frequently Asked Questions.
See More FAQs for a complete list.
- There is an extensive list of database content statistics. See MGI Includes.
- New on-line book
Biology
of the Laboratory Mouse (by the Staff of The Jackson Laboratory, E. Green, ed. 1966, Dover Publications, New York) joins MGI's collection of electronic books.
- • MouseCyc - the link to Pathways
Biochemical Pathways provides access to the MouseCyc database of curated metabolic biochemical pathways, including biosynthesis, degradation, energy production, and detoxification. Here users can find mouse genetic and genomic data in the context of physiological and cellular processes integrated with the knowledge base of MGI.
- Phenotype form redesign
The Phenotype Data Submission Form is for describing (and submitting) new or additional characteristics of spontaneous, induced, or genetically engineered mutations found in MGI.
