The Mouse Anatomical Dictionary

Stages 1 through 26 (embryonic development) of the Standard Anatomical Nomenclature Database are being developed at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Edinburgh, Scotland and the MRC Human Genetics Unit, Edinburgh, as part of The Mouse Atlas and 3D Graphical Gene Expression Database Project. Copyright 1998 University of Edinburgh (UK) and MRC (UK). Supported by the MRC, the BBSRC, and by the European Science Foundation. Stage 28 (postnatal mouse) is being developed by the Gene Expression Database Project at The Jackson Laboratory.

Stage 14 (Formation & closure anterior neuropore)

Stage 15 (Formation of posterior neuropore, forelimb bud)

Stage 16 (Closure post. neuropore, hindlimb & tail bud)

Stage 17 (Deep lens indentation)

Stage 18 (Closure lens vesicle)

Stage 19 (Complete separation of lens vesicle)

Stage 20 (Earliest sign of fingers)

Stage 21 (Anterior footplate indented, marked pinna)

Stage 22 (Fingers separate distally)

Stage 23 (Toes separate)

Stage 24 (Reposition of umbilical hernia)

Stage 25 (Fingers and toes joined together)

Stage 28 is currently represented in an abridged form. An extensive Stage 28 dictionary has been developed but is not yet in use for annotation of expression data. It can be found here .
