Homozygous mutants are phenotypically normal and fertile. Functional differentiation of mammary epithelium is normal and dams produce milk, but pups thrive poorly on milk lacking whey acidic protein. A normal variant determines a one amino acid change inWAP protein in YBR versus other strains.
