Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show defective outgrowth of the inner cell mass and complete embryonic lethality at implantation. Heterozygotes exhibit decreased cardiac muscle contractility and develop severe cardiomyopathy leading to heart failure in response to pressure overload.
