Most homozygous null mice are anemic and runted and die around weaning. Survivors develop sinusitis and otitis due to lack of mucociliary transport and a paucity of airway cilia. Adult lungs show enlarged alveoli, reduced proliferation, epithelial cell dysmorphology and reduced pulmonary function.
