Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit premature death, severe growth retardation, dwarfism, decreased levels of insulin-like growth factor 1, dopamine, serotonine, noradrenaline, biopterin, and neopterin, abnormal voluntary movement, and elevated phenylalanine levels.
