321 (SM/J x A/J)F2 animals were genotyped at 90 polymorphic loci to identify QTLs associated with various blood biochemical parameters. Parental strain SM/J exhibits increased triglycerides, total cholesterol, and phospholipids compared to parental strain A/J. No difference in insulin levels was observed between SM/J and A/J. Several QTLs reaching suggestive significance were mapped in this study. Many of these loci show a sex-dependent effect.
On mouse Chromosome 1, a locus associated with serum total cholesterol mapped to 74 cM near D1Mit8 (LOD=2.0). This locus exhibits additive inheritance and maps near a previously identified cholesterol QTL named Cq1 (81.6 cM).
On mouse Chromosome 2 a male-specific locus associated with serum phospholipids mapped to 50 cM near D2Mit15 (LOD=2.4).
On mouse Chromosome 3, a locus associated with serum total cholesterol (LOD=2.5) and serum phospholipids (LOD=2.1) mapped to 21 cM near D3Mit46. A male-specific locus associated with serum phospholipids mapped to 78 cM near D3Mit11 (LOD=2.2).
On mouse Chromosome 4, a locus associated with triglycerides and phospholipid levels mapped near D4Mit17. For triglycerides, this locus peaked at 35.4 cM for females (LOD=2.4) and at 42.4 cM for the combined population (LOD=2.6). For phospholipids, this locus peaked at 36.4 cM for females (LOD=2.4) and at 31.4 for the combined population (LOD=2.1). A female-specific locus for total cholesterol (LOD=2.1) and serum phospholipids (LOD=2.6) mapped to 81 cM near D4Mit180.
On mouse Chromosome 6, a locus associated with serum insulin mapped near D6Mit223. In females this locus peaked at 34 cM (LOD=2.1) and in the combined population the peak was found at 29 cM (LOD=2.4 cM). A male-specific locus associated with serum phospholipids mappedto 65.5 cM near D6Mit25 (LOD=2.1).
On mouse Chromosome 8, a locus associated with serum triglyerides mapped to 8 cM near D8Mit18 (LOD=3.4 in females, LOD=2.5 combined). A male-specific locus associated with serum insulin (LOD=2.7) and phospholipids (LOD=2.0) mapped to 68 cM near D8Mit14. This locus maps near a body weight QTL named Bwq3 (56 cM).
On mouse Chromosome 9, a female-specific locus associated with triglycerides mapped to 71 cM near D9Mit19 (LOD=2.3).
On mouse Chromosome 10, a locus associated with serum phospholipids mapped to 61 cM near D10Mit12 (LOD=2.9).
On mouse Chromosome 11, a locus associated with triglycerides mapped near D11Mit14. In females this locus peaked at 57 cM (LOD=2.8) and in the combined population the peak is found at73cM (LOD=2.2).
On mouse Chromosome 12, a locus associated with triglycerides mapped to 39 cM near D12Mit36 (LOD=2.5).
On mouse Chromosome 14, a female-specific locus associated with serum total cholesterol mapped to 13 cM near D14Mit50 (LOD=2.4).
On mouse Chromosome 17, a female-specific locus associated with serum total cholesterol mapped to 20.1 cM near D17Mit28 (LOD=2.2).
On mouse Chromosome 19, a associated with serum total cholesterol, serum phospholipids, and triglycerides mapped to 50 cM near D19Mit3. In female animals peak linkage for triglycerides reached LOD=2.2 and peak linkage for phospholipids reached LOD=2.0. In the combined population peak linkage for total cholesterol reached LOD=2.1, peak linkage for phospholipids reached 2.0, andpeak linkage for triglycerides reached 2.4.
