Notes
  • Experiment
Inbred strain FVB/NJ expresses 50% less integrin alpha 2 on blood platelets compared to inbred strains C57BL/6J, 129X1/SvJ, C3H/HeJ, and BALB/cJ. Platelets from FVB/NJ mice exhibit reduced collagen-induced aggregation and longer lag time to collagen compared to other strains. Twenty (FVB/NJ x C57BL/6J)F2 animals were typed for D13Mit260, a marker at 83 cM on mouse Chromosome 13 near the Itga2 gene. D13Mit260 showed linkage to reduced Itga2 expression with LOD=6.7 and this locus is named Rplag (reduced platelet aggregation). Authors theorize polymorphisms in the Itga2 regulatory region may be responsible for the 2-fold reduction in integrin alpha 2 expression and reduced platelet aggregation phenotype observed in FVB/NJ mice.
