Gene Summary for NIH-0617
Functional Category: signal transduction
Cell Location: integral membrane
OST #: 105469
Mouse Nucleotide Accession #: NM_010254
Human Nucleotide Accession #: NM_003857

Summary:
The targeted mouse gene is Galr2 (galanin receptor 2), ortholog of human GALR2. Aliases include mGalR and GALNR2.

Phenotypic Summary for NIH-0617
The homozygous mutant mice exhibited a decreased rearing response during open field testing when compared with that of their wild-type littermates, suggesting decreased exploratory behavior in these mutants. Consistent with this phenotype, 4 of 7 homozygous mutant mice did not rear during the functional observational battery. A slight increase in the mean percentage of CD4 cells and a slight decrease in the mean percentage of B cells were also noted in the homozygous mutant mice. RT-PCR analysis revealed that the transcript was absent in the homozygous mutant mice.

Mutation Information
Mutation Type: Retroviral Insertion (OST)
Description: The mouse gene consists of 2 exons, with the start codon located in exon 1 (NCBI accession NM_010254). Retroviral insertion occurred in the intron between exons 1 and 2.
