Mutation details: A bacterial lacZ gene was inserted into the gene such that the endogenous gene promoter drives expression of beta-galactosidase. RT-PCR analysis detects a gene transcript at high levels in whole brain, subcortical region and epididymis and lower levels in cortex, brainstem, olfactory bulb, spinal cord, eye, thymus, pituitary gland, cerebellum, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, cecum, testis and prostate gland; weak beta-galactosidase expression is detectable in a few regions of the wholemount brain and in a small number of spermatogenic cells in the testis.
