Mutation details: A bacterial lacZ gene was inserted into the gene such that the endogenous gene promoter drives expression of beta-galactosidase. While RT-PCR analysis detects high levels of gene transcript in pituitary gland and large intestine and lower levels in brain, cortex, subcortical region, cerebellum, brainstem, olfactory bulb, spinal cord, eye, Harderian gland, lung, spleen, lymph nodes, skin, gallbladder, urinary bladder, adrenal gland, stomach, small intestine, cecum, epididymis, prostate gland, ovaries, uterus and white fat, beta-galactosidase expression from this allele is detectable in brain, trachea, larynx, pituitary gland, tongue, and the male reproductive system.
