Mutation details: The transgene construct consists of a rat mIgf-1 cDNA driven by skeletal muscle-specific regulatory elements from the rat myosin light chain (MLC)-1/3 locus. Expression of the MLC/mIgf-1 transgene in adult mice was restricted to skeletal muscle and predominated in muscles enriched in fast fibers, such as the triceps or gastrocnemius. Transgene expression was reduced in slow muscles such as the soleus, where the MLC regulatory cassette is characteristically expressed at very low levels. (J:96432)
