Mutation details: A genomic fragment containing the coding exons of the chicken lysozyme gene (also known as hen egg lysozyme, HEL) was linked to a mouse metallothionein I promoter. The mouse metallothionein I promoter is active during embryonic, fetal, and adult life, and can be induced to higher levels of transcription by heavy metals. Mice carrying the transgene had measurable, soluble chicken lysozyme in their serum. The line chosen for study (ML-5) had the highest serum lysozyme concentrations. (J:78308)
