Mutation details: A neomycin selection cassette replaced exon 2 and also introduces both termination and polyadenylation signals into the open reading frame. The authors noted that if the aforementioned signals were not recognized, the splicing of exons 1 and 3 would result in frameshift mutation. Western analysis of lysates isolated from the brains and spleens of homozygous mutant mice showed an absence of protein expression. (J:29516)
