Caption Histological sections from central and peripheral retinas of 4-week-old Rpe65rd12/Rpe65rd12 (Rpe65rd12/rd12;Rho+/+) and Rpe65rd12/Rpe65rd12 RhoTvrm4/Rho+ (Rpe65rd12/rd12;RhoTvrm5/+) animals, n=3 mice. At 4 weeks of age, retinas of Rpe65rd12/Rpe65rd12 mice retained a full complement of photoreceptor nuclei. In comparison, Rpe65rd12/Rpe65rd12 RhoTvrm4/Rho+ mutants had only 2-3 rows of cell bodies remaining in the central ONL. The peripheral retina that also showed cell loss was better preserved than the central retina.
