Caption Developmental cardiovascular defects of Ramp2tm1Kmca/Ramp2tm1Kmca embryos phenocopies those of Calcrltm1Kmca/Calcrltm1Kmca and Admtm1Unc/Admtm1Unc embryos. Histological sections from E14.5 wild type (WT) and Ramp2tm1Kmca/Ramp2tm1Kmca (RAMP2-/-) embryos stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The mutant embryos had generally smaller hearts than wild type littermates (A,B) with overtly normal artia, ventricles, valves and septum. The thickness of the compact zone of the right ventricle (RV) was significantly diminished in mutant embryos compared to wild type littermate controls (C,D). While the endothelial lining of aortas (Ao) from mutant embryos appeared indistinguishable from that of wild type littermates, there was a remarkable reduction in the extent of vascular smooth muscle coverage in mutant embryos compared to wild type (E,F).
