Arrowheads and arrows highlight agenesis or hypoplasia of neuronal differentiation in the midbrain and cranial ganglia. Mutant embryos exhibit only a rudimentary neuronal differentiation within the cranial ganglia and a complete lack of neuronal differentiation within the midbrain (arrowheads).
