Histology of erythroid hyperplasia in the bone marrow, increased iron deposition in the liver, and alpha globin chain inclusions in the peripheral blood of adult heterozygous Hbb^{tm1.1(HBG1,HBB*)Ryan}/Hbb⁺ (gamma beta⁰/+ KI) mice. The femoral bone marrow cavity is expanded and filled with erythroid cells in adult mutant mice. The liver of mutant mice shows increased levels of iron after Perl's iron staining. Vital staining of peripheral blood with methyl violet demonstrates the presence of alpha globin chain inclusions in the mutant mice.
