Caption Histological analysis of the testes. The testis sections of control and Npc1m1N/Npc1m1N (Npc1-/-) mice were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (original magnification, 35x). A: Normal spermatogenesis in control mice. B: Some tubules in mutant mice showed abnormal spermatogenesis while others appeared normal. Arrow 1 indicates fused spermatogenic cells with more than one nucleus; arrow 2 shows a degenerating seminiferous tubule. The tubule (arrow 3) in the lower right corner illustrates a region of apparently normal sperm production.
