Sagittal sections of the parietal (A and B) and occipital (C and D) bones of the wild-type (WT, A and C) and Gja1^tm1Kdr/Gja1^tm1Kdr (Cx43^-/-, B and D) mice stained with safranin/fast green. Note that the parietal bone is thinner and more brittle in the homozygous mutants (D). The cartilaginous anlage of the occipital bone is more prominent in the mutant mice.
