Electron micrographs of transverse sections of optic nerves of day 1 (top row) and day 9 (bottom row) wild type (WT, right) and Ank2^tm1Bnt/Ank2^tm1Bnt (-/-, left) mice. Sections of optic nerves were obtained within 1mm of the optic chiasm and matched as closely as possible between mutant and wild type mice. Several dilated axons are outlined between the two arrowheads. Arrows denote sites where axons are not in contact with each other. A mulivescicular body in a day 9 mutant axon is marked by an asterisk. Scale bar: 1um.
