Image
Caption Longitudinal sections of tongue (A and D) and thigh (B and E) skeletal muscle from 5 week old Destm1Cap/Destm1Cap (-/-) and wild type (WT) mice. Numerous skeletal muscle fibers in mutant mice (A and B) appear ragged and disorganized, giving the impression that they are degenerating when compared to wild type muscle (D and E). Striations are rarely discernible in these fibers. Cross sections of thigh skeletal muscle from mutant (C) and wild type (F) mice demonstrate that in mutant mice, many fibers are also ragged in appearance and are frequently not closely packed when compared to wild type muscle. Additionally, there appear to be more nuclei present in cross sections from mutant mice, including some fibers which appear to have multiple nuclei clustering internally. Bars: A and D, 5um; B,C,E and F, 10um.
