Caption A: Size of Serpini2pq/Serpini2pq mice (center) in relation to wild type (left) and Serpini2pq/Serpini2+ littermates (right) at 8 weeks of age. C-H: Pancreas hematoxylin and eosin histological analyses were performed on 8 week old (C, D, E), 3 week old (F), and 1 week old (G & H) mice. Wild type acinar cells (C) and heterozygous acinar cells (D) at 8 weeks of age were morophologically normal. This is in contrast to homozygous mice at 8 weeks of age (E) and 3 weeks of age (F), where there is a severe loss of exocrine pancreatic acinar cells while duct cells and islet cells (arrows) are normal. Acinar cells are present in pancreas samples from 1 week old homozygous mice (H), but the cells are smaller and show reduced cytosolic volume when compared to wild type littermates (G). Scale bar: 25um
