In contrast to the wild type mammary glands (A,B), the Gja1^tm7(Gja2)Kwi/Gja1⁺ mammary glands (C,D) show a dramatically reduced branching of the ductuli. As a consequence, less alveoli surrounded by adipocytic tissue were seen (compare A with C). The alveoli were mostly smaller in diameter but did show apocrine secretion and milk droplets in the lumen (arrow, D).
