A: E17.5 Slc27a4^wrfr/Slc27a4^wrfr mice (right) have abnormally shiny, dry skin and the mouth is fixed in an open position. Herniated intestines are present in approximately 10% of the mice. B: Slc27a4^wrfr/Slc27a4^wrfr newborn mice exhibit tight, shiny noncompliant skin that is absent of wrinkles which is typical in normal mice.
