At E10.5, Fras1, Frem2 and Frem3 co-localize in the basement membrane of epidermal epithelium (arrows) and retinal precursor (arrowheads) (A, C, D), whereas marginal Frem1 staining is evident at this stage (B). At E12.5, Frem1 immunostaining becomes apparent in the basement membrane of the corneal ectoderm (F, arrow) along with the other members of the family (E, G, H, arrows), while Fras1, Frem2 and Frem3 in addition, are detected in the basement membrane of the inner retinal layer (E, G, H, arrowheads). At E14.5, enhanced signals are viewed in the basement membrane of the eyelids (I-L, arrows) the surface epithelium (filled arrowheads), the mesothelial layer of the cornea (asterisks) and cuboidal epithelium of lens (open arrowheads). At E16.5, signal is evident in the basement membrane of the eyelid (M-P, arrows), conjuctive epithelium (arrowheads), corneal surface epithelium (asterisks). re, retinal precursor; e, surface epithelium; el, eyelid; co, cornea.
