Inbred Strains of Mice: EL

EL

Inbr (Yok) 84. Albino. c. Origin K.Imaizumi, El (epilepsy) mutation in non-inbred albino mice in 1954.

Characteristics

Epilepsy-like behaviour which can be induced by Megamide (Nakano et al, 1996). Phenobarbital suppresses the seizures dose-dependently, but zonisamide is ineffective (Nagatomo et al, 1996a). Seizure susceptibility may be due to a reduced number of nitric oxide-producing cells in the hippocampal area (Nagatomo et al, 1996b) Maint. by Yok.
