2001 Chromosome Committee Reports

Within the mouse genetics community, each chromosome (1-19, X, Y) has a committee formed by mutual interest in particular genomic regions. Committees welcome new members whose research focuses on specific chromosomal regions or who are interested in contributing their insights and knowledge to developing a consensus map of a particular chromosome. These committees meet regularly at the annual International Mouse Genome Conference and each year prepare a report on the status of their chromosome. Chromosome Committee Reports are semi-standardized around a main table (Table 1) of genetic markers that includes data on genetic, cytogenetic, and physical position, mapping methods, homologies to human, mutations, and references. A variety of additional figures and tables and a brief text summarizing new developments over the past year are included. These reports are published annually in a special issue of the journal Mammalian Genome, and the Mouse Genome Informatics Project makes these reports accessible electronically via the World Wide Web (WWW).

On the WWW, each chromosome report includes a number of hypertext links to other data in the Mouse Genome Database (MGD). In particular, locus symbols and reference accession numbers form active links. When links from locus symbols are missing, the locus symbol is non-standard or not approved by the International Committee on Standardized Nomenclature for Mice. In preparing data for the WWW, no attempt was made to globally update locus symbols or citations, and no overwriting of material submitted by the Chromosome Committees was done. The Chromosome Committee Reports appear here basically "as submitted".

The Mouse Chromosome Committee Reports are supported through the efforts of the Mouse Genome Database staff (HG00330). Additional financial sponsorship and support of the 12th International Mouse Genome Conference comes from the DOE (DE-FG02-98ER62634); NICHD, NCI, NHGRI (HG00756); Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft; Bayerisches Staatministerium fur Unterricht, Kultus, Wissenschaft und Kunst; GSF (Neuherberg); Health Research, Inc., Roswell Park Division; Mouse News Letter Ltd.; Boehringer Mannheim; Chiroscience R & D, Inc.; Millennium Pharmaceuticals; Qiagen GmbH; and Research Genetics, Inc.
