This gamma-radiation-induced allele produces a phenotype similar to that seen in extreme nonagouti (a^e). a^j is the most recessive allele at the agouti locus and is probably equivalent to a^e. It is associated with a chromosomal rearrangement, Is(17;In2)ld,aj1Gso (Is1Gso) that inverts a segment of Chr 2 (J:16567).
