It is due to a C-to-T transition in non-coding exon 2 that introduces an out-of-frame ATG upstream of the normal translation start site. Hr transcript is present, but its protein level is greatly diminished in the skin of homozygous baldy mutant mice. (J:105913) Inheritance:    Recessive
